Long Beach Apartment Fire Starts in Kitchen

Tuesday morning blaze badly damaged the upstairs unit but those inside the apartment were unharmed.

Two people escaped a Tuesday morning apartment fire that began in the kitchen and badly damaged the upstairs unit, and arson investigators are examining the scene, the Long Beach Fire Department reported.

Three people were left homeless after the fire. It started at 11:20 a.m., when flames erupted in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment in the 1300 block of Stanley Avenue, fire officials said. The unit was one of four in the building but it appeared the only one burned. It suffered heavy damage from the blaze.

The three adults who lived in the apartment are being helped by the Red Cross. Arson Investigators are examining the scene as part of the investigation into the cause of the morning fire, officials said in a e-mailed statement
