Leisure World Man Struck and Killed in Crosswalk, Driver Arrested

A 75-year-old woman was allegedly under the influence when she struck an 86-year-old man as he rode his motorized scooter across the crosswalk.

An 86-year-old Leisure World man died this week after he was hit by a driver while crossing the street in his motorized wheelchair. The driver, a 75-year-old Seal Beach woman, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The accident took place May 20 at about 5:30 p.m. at Saint Andrews and Tam O’Shanter.

The rider of the motorized wheel chair sustained injuries and was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital for medical treatment, but died on Monday, Seal Beach Police Sergeant Rick Ransdell said in a written statement. The cause of his death is unknown at this time, he added. Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim.

Dale Snyder Quinn, the 75-year-old driver, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and taken to the Seal Beach jail. She was released shortly after due to an emergency medical condition, added Ransdell. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office has yet to file any charges against Quinn, who could face manslaughter charges.

Both the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Seal Beach Police Department continue to investigate the matter. The Seal Beach Police Department is requesting that anyone who witnessed the collision contact Officer Joe Garcia at (562) 799-4100 extension 1649 or Officer Chris Hendrix extension 1643.
