Judge Postpones Salon Shooting Trial To November

The man accused of murdering eight people at a Seal Beach salon — the largest mass killing in Orange County history — saw his jury trial moved to November, the Orange County Register reported Friday. 

A judge postponed the trial date for Huntington Beach resident Scott Evans Dekraai after defense attorneys argued they needed more time to prepare their case in light of the prosecution's revelation of a jailhouse informant.

Dekraai, who could face the death penalty if convicted, is charged with eight counts of murder, including the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, and one count of attempted murder involving a woman who was shot at the salon, but survived.

Dekraai is accused of walking into Salon Meritage on Oct. 12, 2011 and gunning down his 48-year-old ex-wife, Michelle Fournier, before opening fire on others inside the business.

Also killed were the salon's owner, Randy Lee Fannin, 62; Victoria Ann Buzzo, 54; Lucia Bernice Kondas, 65; Laura Lee Elody, 46; Michele Daschbach Fast, 47; Christy Wilson, 47; and David Caouette, 64. Hattie Stretz, 73, survived her injuries.
