Hit and Run Crash Leads to Freeway Chase

The victim of a hit and run crash chased the other driver through Long Beach and onto the 605 Freeway before his disabled vehicle finally broke down, according to police.

A hit and run crash led to a chase through the streets of Long Beach before ending during rush hour traffic on the northbound San Gabriel (605) Freeway in Los Alamitos Friday.

The initial crash involved a beige Lexus SUV and an unknown vehicle at Channel Drive and Bixby Village Drive, said Long Beach Police Department Sgt. David Marander.

The driver of the second vehicle attempted to flee ,and the man driving the Lexus chased him through the city and onto the northbound 605 Freeway, said Marander. However, the disabled Lexus broke down near the Katella Avenue overpass, according to the California Highway Patrol, which received multiple reports of the hit and run crash at about 6:51 p.m.

“The suspect evidently got away,” said Marander.
