Head-on Crash Injures 6, Closes Seal Beach Boulevard

Two people are critical after a wreck involving three cars above the 405 Freeway. Street will be closed till after midnight.

Six people were injured – two critically – following a head-on collision on the Seal Beach Boulevard overpass above the San Diego (405) Freeway on Wednesday night.

Orange County Fire Authority crews had to extricate two people trapped in the crash, which was declared a mass casualty involving three cars. Ultimately, six people, including a family of four, were taken to trauma centers, said Seal Beach Police Department spokesman Sgt. Steve Bowles.

“We still haven’t determined the cause of the collision,” said Bowles.

Preliminary radio reports indicated that two speeding cars collided head-on, causing one of the vehicles to crash into a third car, said Orange County Fire Authority spokesman Marc Stone.

Two women were taken to trauma hospitals in critical condition, and two men and two children were transported to hospitals for evaluation, added Bowles.

Seal Beach Boulevard will remain closed in both directions until the early morning hours as investigators from the multiple agency Accident Reconstruction Team go over the accident scene.
