Firefighters Rescue Man From Flood Control Channel

Victim was treated at the scene, official says. Incident occurred behind Los Alamitos High School.

A man was pulled from the side of a flood control channel behind Los Alamitos High School this afternoon by firefighters after they received a call that someone was in the water.

The call came in at 4:07 p.m., said Orange County Fire Battalion Chief Kris Concepcion.

"We actually didn't make a swift water rescue, but we assessed the victim and we treated him on scene," Concepcion said. "Dispatch told our engines that were en route that the male victim was out of the water, laying on his side. I don't know if a bystander helped him or he was able to get out of the water by himself."

Concepcion said the man was taken to Los Alamitos Medical Center. The spokeswoman at the hospital could not immediately be reached.
