The family of missing 56-year-old Lake Forest woman made a heartfelt public plea Thursday, beseeching Orange County residents—especially those in beach cities—to keep an eye out for the "distraught" woman.
McKay's sister, Mary Schaffer, said Thursday that her sister's absence is entirely "uncharacteristic" of the mother of two grown children and has her family extremely concerned.
McKay's son, who saw her last, saw her leave home at 10 p.m. Monday in her black 2011 Ford Escape with the license plate 6PSK061 and a full tank of gas.
"We are so empty without you," Schaffer said. "We need you home. Please call us. Let us know you're OK. We love you and miss you very much."
Schaffer said that McKay for 25 years has lived in Lake Forest, where she raised two children. She works as an insurance claims adjuster.
Schaffer said recent financial and medical issues are likely the cause of McKay's absence.
Recent events have been "maxing out [McKay's] capacity to cope," Schaffer said.
McKay's disappearance was a complete shock to her family. She has never done anything like this in the past, Schaffer said.
McKay loves to spend time at the beach, especially in her hometown of Seal Beach and in Laguna Beach, her sister said.
Public assistance is needed as the sheriff's department has not received any leads as to where McKay may have gone, said Sgt. Andre Spencer on Thursday afternoon.
Nothing has led the sheriff's department to believe that foul play may be a factor in her disappearance, he added.
McKay is a Caucasian female who stands about 5-foot-2-inches, weighs 130 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. She has a tattoo of a rose on her chest. She may have been wearing a black-and-white dress when she left Lake Forest.
She has also used the last names Schaffer and Gonzales.
