Elderly Woman Hit by Car in Leisure World Monday, Passes Away Today

A 28-year-old driver from Seal Beach was behind the wheel. No alcohol or drug use is suspected.

An 86-year-old Leisure World resident passed away today after being struck by a car Monday as she walked across a street.

Seal Beach police officers were called to the Leisure World accident scene  at Interlachen Road and St. Andrews Drive at 4:20 p.m. At the time, the 86-year-old woman – as yet unidentified – appeared to have minor injuries, according to a press release from the Seal Beach Police Department.

However, she was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital for further evaluation, officials said.

“Unfortunately, on April 8, 2014, the pedestrian in this collision passed away,” said Sgt. Philip L. Gonshak. It is unknown whether injuries in the accident caused or contributed to her death, he said.

The death investigation has been turned over to the Orange County Coroner’s office, he said.
