Cat Burglars Target Old Town's Open Windows

Police are warning residents to lock their windows at night despite the heat because of burglars, who are slicing screens to break into Old Town homes.

Seal Beach police warned residents today to beware of burglars who take advantage of open windows during hot spells. Two residential burglaries took place in the city's Old Town section during the nighttime hours Wednesday, said Seal Beach police Lt. Bob Mullins.

In both cases, the burglars cut open screens of open windows, reached inside and stole what they could grab, he said.

``Residents are encouraged to utilize alternative means to cool their homes and to secure their valuables so that they are not readily accessible to opportunistic criminals,'' Mullins said.
