Blotter: Two Bicyclists Collide and a Dresser Drawer Mystery

Here are some of the crime calls in Seal Beach from July 23 to July 30 as reported by the Seal Beach Police Department.

PROPERTY DESTRUCTION

  • 7/23/2012 — 1:58 p.m. — Seal Beach Boulevard — A caller wanted to turn in a bullet-proof vest for destruction.

SPEEDING OR RACING VEHICLE

  • 7/23/2012 — 10:32 p.m. — Marina Drive and 4th Street — A resident reported hearing vehicles racing up and down her street, and the woman thinks they are drag racing.

  • 7/24/2012 — 11:34 a.m. — 5th Street and Pacific Coast Highway.  A man fell off his bicycle and possibly broke his hip. Emergency crews were dispatched.

LOBBY

  • 7/24/2012 — 2:50 p.m. — 10th Street — An antique rifle was reported missing.

  • 7/25/2012 — 9:09 a.m. — Fir Avenue —Two females going into an empty home turned out to be a cleaning crew.

DISTURBING THE PEACE

  • 7/25/2012 — 11:01 p.m. — Pacific Coast Highway — A male transient was sitting against the wall of the bank screaming and yelling.

CITIZEN ASSIST

  • 7/26/2012 — 12:04 a.m. — 8th Street —A woman said her dog was barking at the dresser drawer all night and has now caught something. The woman said she does not know what it was but it was now on her bed. The caller said she was afraid and didn’t want to go near it.

DISTURBANCE – FAMILY

  • 7/26/2012 — 5:16 p.m. — 12th Street and Electric Avenue — During an argument between a mother and daughter, the 15-year-old girl tried to leave, but the woman tried to restrain her. The mother was described as a heavy-built woman in her 50s, wearing a blue top and blue pants. The daughter was described as having brown hair and wearing a purple top and blue shorts.

PETTY THEFT

  • 07/27/2012 — 4:08 p.m. — 10th Street — Someone stole a red Electra Beach Cruiser valued at $800. The bike was locked and chained to a post outside the caller’s home. 

DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED

  • 07/27/2012 — 10:41 p.m. — Pacific Coast Highway and Bolsa Avenue — Two woman in a silver Volkswagen bug were travelling on Bolsa, and a caller said they were “completely drunk out of their minds.”

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

  • 07/28/2012 — 8:41 a.m. — Driftwood Avenue — An unfamiliar man walked into a home and started talking to the residents like he knew them. The man was described as medium-build, wearing a hat and glasses, and a long sleeve white shirt and blue jeans. He was also reportedly holding a jacket in his hands.

MEDICAL AID

  • 07/28/2012 — 8:46 a.m.  — Pacific Coast and Seal Beach — Two bicyclists collided. One of the bikers was unresponsive but breathing. At least one of the bikes was booked at the police station.

COUNSELING

  • 07/29/2012 — 13:47 p.m. — Heather Circle — A woman requested counseling on how to remove her daughter from her home. The woman said the daughter took all the keys to her vehicle.  

EXTRA PATROL

  • 07/29/2012 — 8:57 p.m. — Seal Beach Boulevard — An unknown subject tried to pry the back door off a local business. The caller did not want a report.  

DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED

  • 07/30/2012 — 1:19 a.m. — Westminster Avenue and Kitts Highway — A red sedan was swerving on the road, straddling the lines and almost hit another car.  The caller who reported the incident was following in a blue BMW 4-door.  The driver of the sedan was issued a citation and suspension of license.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON IN VEHICLE

  • 07/30/2012 — 03:01 a.m. — Montecito Road — A caller heard a loud tow truck and two subjects walking around it.  The caller said he felt it was suspicious because it was late at night. It turned out the the sound was a private security towing company that was towing vehicles with fake permits.
