Blotter: Elderly Man Drives Scooter Into Traffic

Selected reports from Feb. 16 to Feb. 21 from the Seal Beach Police Department's incident logs.

An elderly man drove a motorized scooter into traffic lanes near the intersection of the 405 Freeway and Seal Beach Boulevard Feb. 21, a caller told the Seal Beach Police Department.

The elderly man, apparently unharmed, was taken to his residence. No collisions were reported after the 2:42 p.m. incident.

  • 02/14/12 – 7:23 a.m. – North Gate Road - A taxi cab coming off the freeway hit a curb by the fire station. The taxi was towed away, and no injuries were reported.

MUNICIPAL CODE VIOLATION

  • 02/14/2012 – 8:44 p.m. – Ocean Avenue – A large bonfire was reported on the south side of the pier.

  • 02/15/12 – 12:39 a.m. – Near the intersection of Electric Avenue and Main Street — A bald, heavyset man stole a bike from a house on a nearby corner. The man was wearing a grey sweatshirt, jeans and a blue backpack. The bike reported stolen was a Beach Cruiser.

DISTURBING THE PEACE

  • 02/16/2012 – 3:19 p.m. – Seal Beach Boulevard – A man reportedly stole the caller’s sweater after a traffic incident. According to a caller, the man became angry after the caller gave him the middle finger after the traffic incident. The caller described the man as 50- to 60-years-old with white hair, wearing a black sweater and driving a black Ford F150 with a black storage cage.

MEDICAL AID

  • 02/16/2012 – 4:30 p.m. – Unknown location – A 60-year-old man tripped and fell where the beach meets the asphalt right next to a lifeguard shack. The man was conscious but had a bleeding head injury. He declined medical attention and was escorted home.

POSSIBLE GRAND THEFT

  • 02/17/2012 – 10:13 a.m. – 1st Street – Because of a breakup the previous night, a woman’s ex-boyfriend came to her residence and took items belonging to her, the woman said. A laptop, some clothing and various kitchen items were reported missing.

DISTURBING THE PEACE

  • 02/17/2012 – 5:34 a.m. – Pacific Coast Highway – A caller said that a man in his early 40s or 50s threw a phone at someone. The man had dark blond hair and was wearing a gray sweater. The incident occurred after the man got into a verbal argument over a prepaid cell phone.

TRAFFIC HAZARD

  • 02/18/2012 – 11:02 a.m. – Pacific Coast Highway – A woman wearing a towel on her head was walking into traffic. The woman had a blue shirt and white shorts.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

  • 02/18/2012 10:51 p.m. – Seal Beach Boulevard – A caller spent about 15 minutes describing a potential car break-in. It turned out that the driver had simply locked the keys in the car.

GRAND THEFT REPORT

  • 02/19/2012 – 10:20 a.m. – Ironwood Avenue – Someone stole a portable generator worth about $2,000 from the bed of a red 2010 Ford F-250 Pickup.

VANDALISM REPORT

  • 02/19/2012 - 4:08 p.m. – Ocean Avenue – Vandals ripped the mirrors and handles off of a black 2008 Cadillac Escalade and egged it, too.

DISTURBING THE PEACE

  • 02/20/2012 – 4:14 p.m. – Montecito Road – Ten males in a clubhouse and pool were reportedly being rowdy. Subjects were between 18 to 22 years of age. The pool was completely vacant about 11 minutes later.

PERSON DOWN

  • 02/20/2012 – 7:14 p.m. – Near the intersection of Marina and Pacific Coast Highway – A man was found on face down on the sidewalk. The man, conscious and breathing, was taken to Los Angeles Medical Center by medics.

LOBBY REQUEST.

  • 02/21/2012 – 1:01 a.m. – Kenwood Road – A woman said that someone had broken into her house and stole her driver’s license and registration papers. She said she didn’t know when it happened.
