Actor Tells Police How He Murdered Two People

The actor accused of murdering and dismembering a man in the Los Alamitos Liberty Theater and killing a woman to cover up the crime, gave police a chilling confession.

The actor facing the death penalty for allegedly murdering and dismembering a friend in a Los Alamitos theater and then killing another woman in a convoluted plot to cover it up, admitted to police, “I'm crazy, and I did it.”

Grand Jury transcripts obtained by the Los Angeles Times sheds light on the bizarre confession of community theater actor Daniel Patrick Wozniak, 28.

Prosecutors accuse Wozniak of shooting his neighbor Samuel Herr inside the Liberty Theater at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base last year so he could steal Herr’s savings account. According to the Orange County district attorney’s office, Wozniak shot Herr and then went to Herr’s apartment in Costa Mesa and lured Herr’s friend Juri “Julie” Kibuishi to the apartment by pretending to be Herr via text message. Police allege that once Kibuishi arrived, Wozniak shot her twice and staged a sexual assault.

At that point, Herr became the prime suspect in Kibuishi’s death.

According to investigators, Wozniak returned to the Liberty Theater the next day and dismembered Herr, leaving his legs and torso and dumping Herr’s head and arms at the El Dorado Park Nature Center in Long Beach. Investigators also accuse Wozniak of giving Herr’s ATM card to a 17-year-old and asking the boy to withdraw $2,000 for him. The teen was arrested, and that’s when Wozniak became the prime suspect in the slaying. Costa Mesa police arrested Wozniak five days later during his bachelor party.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Wozniak confessed to police shortly after his arrest that he killed Herr to steal $50,000 in a savings account accrued from Herr’s combat service in Afghanistan.

The newspaper quotes Homicide Det. Mike Delgadillo’s testimony that Wozniak asked Herr to help him move items at the Liberty Theater and then shot Herr as he was bending over to lift a piece of furniture.

“At that point Sam fell to his knees, looked up at Mr. Wozniak and said, 'I have just been — something happened, I just got electrocuted,' " Delgadillo said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

That’s when police say Wozniak fired a second shot, killing Herr.
