The following Letter to the Editor is in response to the May 16 article “” about a protest outside the office of Los Alamitos Dr. Marcy Zwelling, a public voice of opposition to Proposition 29, which would increase taxes on cigarette and Tobacco sales.
As a Fellow California Medical Association (CMA) member, what I find most disturbing about Dr. Zwelling's conduct is her failure to disclose that she is l, and not on behalf of either the CMA or the Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA), both of which have endorsed Proposition 29.
I am concerned that Dr. Zwelling is misleading the voters of California in the Official Voter Information Guide by listing LACMA in her credentials, and thereby suggesting that she is a representative for that organization. I believe the proper next step would be for Dr. Zwelling to issue a public statement clarifying this difference in opinion, and removing LACMA from her title to avoid confusion as California's voters head to polls on June 5.
