Weekend Closure Slated for Seal Beach Blvd. On-ramp

Crews are scheduled to replace a gas line to make way for freeway widening.

It’s not exactly Carmageddon but there is work going on this weekend that may impact your drive if you’re planning to hop onto I-405.

The Seal Beach Boulevard on-ramp to the southbound I-405 is slated to close from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31.

Here’s how to get around the closure:

If you’re heading south on Seal Beach Boulevard, turn left on Westminster Boulevard. Then continue straight on Westminster Boulevard to access the southbound I-405.

Those heading north on Seal Beach will be alerted before Westminster Boulevard to turn right on Westminster and proceed eastbound to the southbound I-405 on-ramp.

The closure is needed so crews from Long Beach Gas and Oil can relocate an existing gas line. The line, which is near the Seal Beach Boulevard on-ramp, needs to be moved in order to add additional lanes on I-405 as part of the West County Connectors project.

In case you’ve forgotten, or maybe haven’t heard, the WCC project is building direct carpool lane connectors between the 22, 405 and 605 freeways and adding another carpool lane on the 405 between the 22 and 605.

Once the work is done, carpoolers won’t have to cut across lanes to get from freeway to freeway, which will help traffic move better for everyone (including all those solo Prius drivers who are back in the regular lanes with the rest of us).

If you’d like to know more about the project or if you want to sign up for construction alerts and information, please visit: www.octa.net/westcounty. Also, please feel free to comment here and we will be happy to respond.

Drive safely!
