Switching Lanes: I-405 Closures to Continue Southbound

Beginning as early as Jan. 9, full nighttime closures will switch from the northbound I-405 freeway to the southbound I-405. The closures are anticipated to continue for approximately two weeks.

Beginning as early as Jan. 9, full nighttime closures will switch from the northbound I-405 freeway to the southbound I-405. The closures are anticipated to continue for approximately two weeks.

Northbound I-405 closures began on Dec. 10, 2011 and have been continuing off and on throughout the holiday season. The closures on the northbound side will finish on Jan. 8.

The freeway is closed between the I-605 and Seal Beach Boulevard. Work will take place between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday and between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Southbound I-405 Suggested Detours:

  • From the SB I-405, exit Studebaker Road and head south, turn left on 2nd Street/Westminster Avenue and turn left on Seal Beach Boulevard to access the I-405 on-ramp
  • From the SB I-405, exit Studebaker Road and head south, turn left on 2nd Street/Westminster Avenue and continue east on Westminster to access the SB I-405 on-ramp
  • From the SB I-405, exit Studebaker Road and head south, turn left on 2nd Street/Westminster Avenue, and turn left on Goldenwest Street to access the EB SR-22 on-ramp

Freeway closures are necessary as part of the 7th Street bridge reconstruction. Crews are adding falsework to support the bridge as it is being constructed. It is estimated that work will finish on both sides of the I-405 freeway by the end of January.
