Former Los Alamitos City Treasurer Passes Away

John Edwards Vondette will be interred in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, next to his wife.

John Edward Vondette was born July 31, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Roy William Vondette and Ruth Marie Lathers Vondette.  John earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He moved to Santa Monica, California in 1944 where he attended Santa Monica High School. 

John earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah in Mathematics. While a resident of Los Alamitos, California (1963-1993), John served as City Treasurer for ten years; was active in Little League Baseball for eight years, serving as President for two years and organized a twilight nine-hole after-work golf league for fifteen years.

He and his wife moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas in 1993.

During forty years of service with Douglas (now Boeing), he spent the majority of his years in Huntington Beach, California; five years at Vandenberg Air force Base in Lompoc, California; and five years at NASA in Houston, Texas. John retired from McDonnell Douglas in 1991.

John is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 57 years, Jean Elizabeth Vondette. He is survived by five children: Michael John Vondette of Lompoc, California; Jane Lee Vondette of Asheville, North Carolina; R. Scott Vondette of Long Valley, New Jersey; Lisa Jean Marcin of Simi Valley, California; and Kathleen Ann Sterbenz of West Haven, Utah; two older sisters: Virginia Cowen of Clayton, California and Marie Oldenkamp of Bakersfield, California; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, California next to his wife.
