24-Hour Vigil for Fallen Firefighter

Sheriff's deputies stand guard to honor Seal Beach native Kevin Woyjeck.

In honor of firefighter Kevin Woyjeck, the Seal Beach native who was killed along with 18 colleagues last month in an Arizona wildfire, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies from the Lakewood Station have begun a 24-hour vigil at L.A. County Fire Station 23 in Bellflower.

Through 9 a.m. Tuesday, deputies will stand guard in full uniform to pay tribute to the family of Woyjeck, the 21-year-old son of Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Joe Woyjeck.

Two hours after the vigil ends, funeral services for Woyjeck will begin at Christ Cathedral, formerly known as the Crystal Cathedral, in Garden Grove.
