Slideshow: 'Tolling The Boats' Memorial Ceremony

Hundreds gathered for the annua Memorial Day Observance at World War Two Submarine Memorial at the Naval Weapons Station.

Hundreds of soldiers from wars throughout the last century gathered with loved ones and community members Monday for the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station’s annual Memorial Day Tolling of the Boats, a 90-minute ceremony honoring the sailors and submarine crews that have died for their country.

The welcoming address for the Memorial Day event was delivered by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, who admitted that the invasion of Iraq had been a mistake during a speech where he honored fallen soldiers in that and other wars.

The ceremony concluded with the reading aloud of the name of each American submarine lost during World War Two along with the fate of its crew while spouses of veterans dropped red, white and blue carnations into a reflecting pool.
