Obamacare Slowdown Redux

Ok, fans – another delay . . . but a good one, I think!

Anthem/Blue Cross has announced that it will delay the Obamacare/Covered California policy cancellations.  Affecting 104,000 people, the company announced this morning that the affected Anthem policy holders – those not grandfathered - will receive a delay the cancellation of their policies for about 60 days.

So, those of you who have Anthem/Blue Cross will not have to worry about changing plans – in California – until March 1st.  You can credit this to Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, with whom I’m often in disagreement; but he used the law in a good way (based on a legal technicality) to delay this oppressive impact as respects Anthem.

This move comes shortly after Blue Shield of California also delayed the terminations of policies, affecting nearly 113,000 people.  As the commissioner correctly noted, it simply wasn’t necessary for Covered California to force the 12/31/13 cancellation and the moving coverage to the exchanges.  He has even stated his opinion, that Californians should be given another year on their current plans.

So, those of you affected by this potential change have been given a reprieve, for now at least, from the “Blues”.  Let us know how we can help you navigate these treacherous medical insurance waters.
