Bits & Pieces are Coming Together: Group Health Insurance

We are looking to assist our clients on the issues with group health insurance.  One such issue is what to do about enrolling in a group plan when the open enrollment dates conflict with when individuals need to have minimum coverage beginning 1/01/14 or face fines & penalties. 

 

The quick answer to this, as recently advised by the IRS on 6/26/13 under Notice 2013-42, is that employees and dependents who chose to wait for the group renewal date can do so and not be subject to the individual penalty for the months in 2014 that they were not covered while waiting for open enrollment for an employer sponsored plan.
