Raise your hand if you are overwhelmed with life right now. I’ll bet that you are raising your hand, or entire arm… or maybe even both arms! I know I am! Let’s take a second and reflect. Let’s de-stress together!
First, BREATHE! When we take the time to simply pay attention to our breathing patterns, our bodies are able to calm themselves. When we are conscious of our breathing, we are able to recall times when we were actually relaxed. A few deep breaths can help to reduce tension and relieve stress.
Second, STEP AWAY FROM THE SCREEN! Computer, phone, and TV use has been associated with increased levels of stress and loss of sleep. Make sure to take frequent short breaks from the computer at work and limit your TV time. Also, shut off your phone at bedtime!
Third, LISTEN TO MUSIC. Classical music is particularly soothing, but your favorite music can put you in a good mood. It will help you conquer the rest of your day, week, or year! Crank up the music on your drive home from work, or play your favorite tunes while getting ready for the day! Either way, instant mood enhancer!
