Casa Youth Shelter's 35th Anniversary Commander's Ball

Los Alamitos, California (October
28, 2013)
– Casa
Youth Shelter is hosting the 35th Anniversary “Commander’s Ball” on
Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and
Spa in Huntington Beach, California. The Commander’s Ball is named after the
shelter’s late founder, Myldred E. Jones, a retired Lieutenant Commander in the
U.S. Navy who founded the youth home in 1978. Now in its 35th year,
Casa Youth Shelter will celebrate Ms. Jones’ living dream with a black-tie
dinner and auction gala event. “The Commander’s Ball is an opportunity for
leaders in our communities to gather and fundraise to make sure that Casa Youth
Shelter continues to provide a safe haven for approximately 250 homeless and
abused youth annually,” said Michael McCrary, former Los Alamitos Police Chief
and President of the Board of Directors.
Casa Youth Shelter is grateful for this year’s Premiere Sponsor, Green
Street Interiors.

Casa
Youth Shelter provides an emergency temporary home for youth in crisis aged
12-17. In the past 35 years, they have provided shelter care to over 11,400
youth, providing nearly 1 million meals and snacks.

To help
fund the shelter, the Board of Directors organizes the annual Commander’s Ball
which brings in nearly $200,000 for the children. Guests can raise their
auction paddles during the Sponsor-A-Kid segment, as well as gorgeous jewelry,
or for travel destinations to France, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Las Vegas, or
experience the excitement at Preakness, the PGA, or a Lakers game. “All of the
auction items this year are phenomenal and are a testament to how hard the
Board, Auction Committee and in particular, the Auction Committee Co-Chairs
Karen Klabouch [of Los Alamitos-based Green Street Interiors] and Kathryn
Partis [community volunteer] have worked to make this year’s Commander’s Ball
the best and brightest we’ve ever had.  New
activities have been added to this year’s event; a wine pull, where guests can
purchase an opportunity to “pull” from a variety of wines, and a “Golden
Ticket” experience, where attendees can purchase, for $100, a chance to choose
from any of the luxurious auction items. “I hope I win the golden ticket for
$100- where I will pick the trip to France!” exclaimed Sandy McElroy, one of
the auction committee members.
