Astronomy Night - Star Party

What could be more fun than observing amazing objects through powerful telescopes by the seaside? Bring your friends or family to astronomy night and find out! First we will explore the terminator of a beautiful first quarter moon against a lovely twilight sky. The craters, mountains and lava plains on our nearest celestial neighbor are a feast for the eyes. As the evening light fades into night, we will take a look at our nearest neighbor planet Venus, which will appear as a brilliant “star” in the West. Venus is covered in clouds so we won’t see surface details, but it’s fun to see what another Earth-sized planet looks like from a distance. After Venus, we will shift our focus to some the best deep-sky sights the early autumn sky has to offer. If you have never seen the moon, planets or deep space objects through a big telescope, you will be amazed! Many wonders await discovery at the eyepiece of powerful telescopes provided by our hard-working volunteer astronomers. Seal Beach Astronomy Nights are co-hosted by Bogart's Coffee House and Seal Beach’s own Astronomy buff, Michael Beckage. We set up the telescopes right across the street next to the Seal Beach pier. If you have a telescope, please feel free to bring it to the star party. You don’t have to be an expert and it’s rewarding to share anything you know with someone else. The star parties are great for kids of all ages and best of all provide serious entertainment at an unbeatable price. (Free, that is!)

Questions always welcome. Clear skies!
