The Seal Beach Surf Contest Got the Greenlight and So Might the Los Al Medical Center Expansion

The Los Alamitos City Council will consider 25-year, multi-million dollar plans to revamp the medical center, the 405 will be a nighttime headache, but the Seal Beach Farmer's Market offers a healthy break.

  1. The Los Alamitos City Council will hold a public hearing tonight to consider a 25-year plan to revamp the Los Alamitos Medical Center by adding a new parking structure, a new office building, two new buildings for patient beds, and tearing down two existing buildings by the year 2030.
  2. Do yourself a big favor and avoid the 405 and 22 freeways between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. because of multiple lane closures scheduled between Seal Beach and Westminster boulevards on the 405 and between Goldenwest Street and the 405 interchange on the 22. Even the light nighttime traffic will be backed up. If you do have to take the freeways, consider exiting well before Seal Beach Boulevard or  Westminster Boulevard or Goldenwest Street. Check out OCTA detours.
  3. And give yourself some extra time during the day if you plan to use the southbound 405 Seal Beach Boulevard off-ramp. Utility work to move a gas pipeline will cause the closure of the off-ramp’s No. 2 lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  4. The Seal Beach Surfing Championship is scheduled for this weekend, and there is still time to enter the all-ages contest. The entry fee is $40. For more information call Seal Beach Lifeguard Headquarters at (562) 430-2613 or visit www.sbsurfcontest.com
  5. Today is the Seal Beach Farmer’s Market. Though small, it is a laid-back friendly affair where you can find local and fresh eggs, winter fruits and vegetables, honey, nuts, pastries and orchids, along with some friendly banter between vendors and regular customers. Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. is a good time to drop in at the market, located at the Roger Dunn Golf Shops parking lot, at 12345 Seal Beach Blvd.
