[UPDATED] Slideshow: Marine Layer and Cooler Temperatures Greet Holiday Weekend

Beach and barbecue season kicks off with cooler than normal forecast, but the coast was still abuzz with people including 'America's Next Top Model' Crew.

Updated at 6 with a wind advisory.

It’s Memorial Day weekend, and that means that the summer barbecue and beach season has arrived. However, the warm, days are a little behind schedule, though the sun broke through at midday Saturday.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory that will be in  effect until 9 PM PDT Sunday. Winds were forecast to increase to 20
to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. While winds are expected to diminish late tonight, they should return Sunday morning.

The strongest winds were forecast near the coast and at high elevations. Motorists traveling on coastal highways and other advisory areas are warned by the NWS to be prepared for sudden crosswinds.

The brisker-than-average day held few back from the sands and waves, where Seal Beach surfers, Long Beach Junior Lifeguards, kayakers, dog walkers, volleyball players and even Tyra Banks and America's Next Top Model crew--filming a charity football game in Long Beach--flocked to the waterfront.

This weekend, coastal temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees cooler than normal, according to the National Weather Service. An especially low marine lower is expected to blanket the coast until 11 a.m. each day this weekend, and a cool late season trough of low pressure will chill out the inland cities, predicts the National Weather Service. Sunday will likely have a high in the low upper 60s.

However, according to the weather service, skies are expected to clear on Memorial Day, and Monday will have a high of about 72 degrees.
