UPDATE: Construction Crane Falls on 22/605 Freeway Interchange

No one was injured Tuesday when a freeway construction crane toppled onto the freeway in Seal Beach.

UPDATE: The eastbound 22 Freeway connector to the northbound 605 Freeway is now clear, and the Studebaker Road onramp to the eastbound 22 Freeway is about to reopen, officials say.

A toppled construction crane blocked the transition road from the eastbound Garden Grove (22) Freeway to the northbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Seal Beach this afternoon, but no one was hurt in the mishap.

The construction crane fell over for unknown reasons at about 4:20 p.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer John Latosquin.

CHP officers were directing motorists to get off the transition road by backing up to the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway and by diverting traffic onto 7th Street, Latosquin said.

It's not clear how long it will take to remove the crane, Latosquin said.
