Seal Beach Salon Shooting First Responders Honored
Ceremony also honors top employees from local police, fire and lifeguard ranks.
The Salon Meritage shooting shattered the stillness of a small seaside town on Oct. 12, 2011.
And this week, locals honored those who first arrived to pick up the pieces.
Seal Beach recognized the police officers and firefighters who responded to the salon shooting massacre in 2011, the O.C. Register reports.
The Public Safety Recognition Luncheon at the Old Ranch Country Club highlighted a number of employees from Seal Beach Police Department, Orange County Fire Authority and Seal Beach Lifeguards. Click here to read the names of the honorees.
According to SBPD Sgt. Steve Bowles, to allow locals time to mourn, officials held off on annual awards ceremonies for two years.
In 2011, a lone gunman opened fire on Salon Meritage, shooting nine people and killing eight. It was the largest mass killing in Orange County history.
