Seal Beach Boulevard Bogged Down by Closures This Week

Roadwork will impact Seal Beach Boulevard and surrounding areas this week.

Always a bit of a bottleneck at the San Diego (405) Freeway, there are even more reasons to avoid Seal Beach Boulevard this week.

The northbound 405 on and off-ramps for Seal Beach Boulevard will be closed every night this week for electric work related to the West County Connector Project. Furthermore, the ramps will partially close intermittently during the day this week for gas company utility work.

The disruptions are among a string of roadwork closures affecting local commuters and residents this week.

  • Long Beach Gas & Oil will be performing daytime utility work on the southbound 405 Seal Beach Boulevard off-ramp.  One lane of the off-ramp will be closed intermittently between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, over the next few weeks.
  • The City of Seal Beach's $1.3 million project to widen Seal Beach Boulevard between St. Cloud and North Gate Road is under way and is scheduled for completion in late 2011 / early 2012. This project includes night and day work. Daytime work may include lane closures on Seal Beach Boulevard, but it will maintain at least two lanes in each direction at all times.
  • Rossmoor residents may notice some noisy roadway excavation and grading under way along the northbound 405, behind Martha Ann Drive, between Druid Lane and Walker Lee Drive in Rossmoor. This work is necessary in order to add additional lanes on the 405 freeway and must be done at night due to safety precautions.
  • Trees and shrubs will be removed along the northbound 405 and southbound San Gabriel (605) Freeway (between Katella Avenue and the 405 freeway interchange) to accommodate the future outside lane widening.
  • Reconstruction of the Bixby Channel is ongoing and will take several months to complete. This work will be done during the daytime and may be loud and disruptive to the neighboring community.
  • Demolition, excavation and reconstruction of portions of the Montecito Channel, adjacent to Martha Ann Drive / Copa de Oro Drive and the 405 / 605 freeways, is ongoing.  This work will be done during the daytime and may be loud and disruptive to the neighboring community.
  • Minor vegetation removal will continue intermittently throughout the month of August in the 405 / 605 interchange.  The removals are necessary in order to construct sound walls in this area. Night work may be disruptive to the neighboring community due to equipment noise and back-up alarms.
