RIP, Two Buck Chuck

Goodbye, Two Buck Chuck. Hello, $2.49 Charles Shaw.

`Two Buck Chuck'' has bit the dust, it was reported today.

The $1.99 cent bottle of Charles Shaw wine, sold by Trader Joe's, now costs $2.49 or more per bottle, the Los Angeles Business Journal reported this week.

The cheap wine had already gone up in the other states that the Monrovia-based specialty grocer operates, and California was the last state to see the price go up.

More than 600 million bottles of Charles Shaw brand wine, bottled by the Bronco Wine Co., have been sold by Trader Joe's over 11 years, spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki told the Los Angeles Business Journal.

``We've held a $1.99 retail price for 11 years,'' she told the Business Journal. Raising the price will allow the chain to continue selling wine with the same quality, she said.
