Onion Spoofs LAPD's Dorner Gaffe

Los Angeles residents are reportedly on edge today following reports that hundreds of armed and extremely dangerous Los Angeles Police Department officers are resuming regular patrolling duties after the conclusion of Tuesday’s manhunt for rogue ex-cop Christopher Dorner.

So begins a satirical jab from TheOnion.com, apparently inspired by LAPD's controversial shooting of a mother and daughter newspaper delivery team in Torrance after Dorner began his alleged anti-cop rampage.

Others have also critiqued the mistaken volley of bullets, albeit in more serious fashion. "Christopher Dorner may be dead, but the police response to the crisis raises troubling questions," said a Los Angeles Times editorial published Thursday. 

"It's understandable that police would be enraged by Dorner," the paper said. "But how does that justify the actions of the officers who shot into a truck driven by two newspaper carriers? ... Force, including lethal force, is a necessary part of police work, but it may be used only to protect officers or others from harm. It is to be wielded to ensure safety, not to exact vengeance."
