Los Alamitos Student Duo Place High in Chess Tourney

The two students placed first and second in the recent Parker Anderson Chess Championship.

Two local boys know how the game is played.

A pair of students from Lee Elementary School in Los Alamitos received high honors in the Parker Anderson Chess Championship last Friday, according to school officials.

Fourth grader, Travis Kimbrell, placed first in the 4th and 5th grade division of the regional tournament, which featured more than 80 students from local schools.

Juan Carrion, a 1st grader, finished in 2nd place in the kindergarten through 3rd grade division championship.

Parker Anderson offers after-school chess clubs and other programs to local schools.
