A Republican Women’s club awarded a $500 scholarship to two local student this week.
Rossmoor-Los Alamitos Republican Women Federated recognized Los Alamitos High School senior Taylor Jalen Fagins and Cypress High School senior Jennifer Wong at a luncheon at the El Dorado Golf Course June 1.
“Our goal with the scholarships is to recognize local young men and women who are preparing for their college journey with a check that helps with the countless sundry items needed to transition from high school to college,” said club President Marlene Walz in a written statement. “It is also an opportunity for the community to recognize their scholastic achievements.”

Jennifer Wong will attend Boston College and plans to major in communications. During high school, Wong worked with the Youth Leadership of America organization and spent her summers volunteering with groups in china and Kenya.
Taylor Jalen Fagins will attend UC Irvine and plans to major in business. Active with sports and music throughout his high school career, Fagins has received awards for his work with the school's show choir.

Seniors at Los Al High, Cypress High, Oxford High School, Kennedy High School and Garden Grove High School were invited to compete for the two scholarships. In addition to telling the club about scholastic achievements, applicants also had to submit a 500-word essay answering the question "How does the Constitution affect my life?"
