Fireworks Show on Alamitos Bay?

The owners of McKenna's restaurant have applied to stage the display next month, Councilman says.

The owners of the restaurant McKenna's on the Bay have applied to stage a fireworks show on Alamitos Bay, Long Beach Council Member Gary DeLong said Sunday.

If approved the firework show would take place on Seal Beach's border and would be one of the most visible shows in the city in years.

The owners have applied to the Long Beach Fire Department for a permit to put on the display on or near Alamitos Bay. DeLong referred questions about details to John Morris, the general manager at McKenna's and would-be buyer of Legend's sports bar on  Second Street, which is being sold by owner Gene Rotondo. Reached midday Sunday ta McKenna's, Morris could not talk during the busy lunch but will be reached in the future to elaborate.

First reporting the story Sunday morning was LBReport.com, whose publisher followed a tip to contact the Long Beach Fire Dept., which first confirmed the potential fireworks show near the water.

"The applicant is McKenna's on the Bay," DeLong wrote in an e-mail to Patch Sunday, "and I've been told the event is also being supported by the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club, Long Beach Yacht Club and various other neighborhood organizations."
