DUI Checkpoints Yield Arrests, Tickets and Vehicle Impounds

Three checkpoints and a saturation patrol over the Labor Day Weekend prove effective.

A series of DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols in Seal Beach over the holiday weekend netted 9 drunk driving arrests and several more citations and vehicle impounds.

This weekend was the third on a row that the Seal Beach Police Department held checkpoints.

  • Friday Evening – DUI Saturation patrol yielded 3 DUI’s, 1 Warrant Arrest, 12 citations and 3 impounded vehicles.
  • Saturday evening – Checkpoint yielded 4 DUI’s, 1 Narcotics related arrest, 7 Citations and 6 impounded vehicles
  • Sunday Evening – Checkpoint yielded 1 DUI, 1 Warrant Arrest, 9 Citations and 4 impounded vehicles
  • Monday Evening – Checkpoint yielded 1 DUI, 1 Warrant, 15 Citations and 8 impounded vehicles.

In 2009 alone, 10,839 people died in crashes in which a driver or motorcycle rider was at or above the legal limit, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. According to the Seal Beach Police Department, the age group with the highest percentage of alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities in motor vehicle traffic crashes was the 21-to-24 age group.
