Drunken Sailors Beware

Coast Guard to crack down on boaters who imbibe alcohol.

The U.S. Coast Guard will be looking for drunken boaters plying the waters off Southern California this weekend, the agency announced Tuesday.

Starting Friday, the Coast Guard will work with other law enforcement officers as part of "Operation Dry Water,'' a crackdown aimed at boaters who are three sheets to the wind.

Anyone found with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or more could be charged with drunken boating, which is similar to a drunken driving charge.
