2.3 Million Bottles of Children's Triaminic, Theraflu Recalled

Children's Triaminic and Theraflu Warming Relief Syrups are being recalled because the child resistance caps have been reported to not close properly.

Approximately 2.3 million units of children's Triaminic cough syrups and Theraflu Warming Relief Syrups are being recalled because the child-resistance caps can "fail to function properly and enable the cap to be removed by a child with the tamper-evident seal in place, posing a risk of unintentional ingestion and poisoning," according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission recall.

There are 24 types of the two products included in the recall. A complete list can be found here: www.novartisOTC.com.

There have been 12 reports of children unscrewing the caps and four reports of children ingesting the product. According to the CPSC, one child required medical attention.

The cough medications were sold at food, drug, mass merchandise and club stores nationwide between May 2010 and December 2011.

Consumers with these products should stop using the products immediately and contact Novartis for instructions on how to return the product for a full refund.
