MAYOR OF ROSSMOOR

HOW TO LOSE FRIENDS AND MAKE ENEMIES IN ROSSMOOR

"I have a right to carry a gun, drive without a seat belt and let my unleashed dog run free in the park".  "Don't tell me to leash my dog; who made you Mayor of Rossmoor?!!!"

Two weeks ago, the Rossmoor Predator Management Team started a campaign to get residents to leash their dogs and to end the dog parties at community parks and schools.  This campaign was in response to numerous requests by residents over the past year concerning dogs that are unleashed on streets, parks and school grounds.  There are numerous incidents where unleashed dogs have attacked and injured pets and their pet owners.  Seniors have complained that they were unable to take an evening walk around our community parks due to fear of an unleashed dog attacking their dog or themselves.  Residents have commented "I am concerned about the coyotes but I am really afraid of unleashed dogs".

To start of our campaign we enlisted the help of Orange County Animal Care and O.C. Sheriff.  Director Ryan Drabek provided additional patrols in Rossmoor.  Lt. Wren provided deputies to patrol parks, schools and sidewalks.  Recently, a resident who refuses to leash his dog was in Rush Park after 10:00 p.m.  An officer witnessed the man with his unleashed dog.  He directed the resident to not only leash his dog but to remove himself from Rush Park as it was now closed.

RPMT has been informed by the unleashed dog resisters that "RPMT has totally lost it's crediability in the community, is hated by the community and we erroded our reputation along with our community support".  It has been suggested that "we focus only on individuals who also break the leash law but whose dogs are totally out of control and whose owners have a bad attitude".  Fortunately, we have weighed the negative comments against the vast support we have received from Rossmoor Residents who support our Dog Leash Campaign.

RPMT would like everyone to know that you can't carry a gun in Rossmoor, by law, regardless if you are a Rossmoor resident, you still must wear a seatbelt and it is against O.C. Ordinance to allow your dog to run freely in the park.  No one made us mayor but we do like the title.  We are thinking of making our dog, Boston, Mayor Pro Tem of Rossmoor.  In the words of Rodney King, "Can We All Just Leash Our Dog?"
