"LEASH MY DOG?!", "I LIVE IN ROSSMOR AND I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT!"

"LEASH MY DOG?!" "I LIVE IN ROSSMOOR AND I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT!"

These were the words from our neighbor from hell who lived on Rowena Drive.  Routinely, he would allow his hunting dogs loose in the morning and also in the evening to dump on their neighbors lawn.  When brought to his attention, he would utter "I live in Rossmoor and I can do anything I want."

One day, we witnessed his dogs chasing after a senior citizen on her bike and called after the dogs to allow her to escape.  Another incident occurred when his dog bit a little girl on the hand.  Shortly after, her mother and this neighbor entered into a physical altercation.   We reported both incidents to O.C. Animal Care.

OCAC came out to cite him for a leash law violation, and he attempted to throw them off his property.  O.C. Sheriff rolled out to assist, and the resident was cited and had to quarantine his dogs.

Myself, I was walking my leashed dog on Copa De Oro when a house with an open door allowed their dog to bolt out and charge both me and my dog.  I was bitten on the hand by the dog trying to get at the dog that I was holding for protection in my arms.  Of course, the pet owner ran out yelling "he's friendly, he's friendly."

At a recent RCSD meeting, a woman got up who was also walking her dog when an unleashed German Shepard appeared and attacked her dog.   Luckily, the dog survived the attack, and the offender paid for the vet bill.  We have to question why - when we have dog parks both in neighboring cities such as Los Alamitos Arbor Dog Park and  five dog parks in Long Beach - anyone chooses the streets and the parks of Rossmoor to allow their dogs to roam free?

It is a feeling in the community that since O.C. Animal Care is rarely seen in Rossmoor, they can allow their dogs to roam free, unleashed.  Those of us who abide by the law are constantly terrorised by these loose "friendly" dogs for fear of our own dogs as well as fear of injury to ourselves.  RPMT feels a campaign should be launched to enforce the leash law by having O.C. Animal Care patrol our neighborhoods and cite offenders.

The Rossmoor Predator Management Team would like to know your thoughts on this issue.  Should dog owners be cited for unleashed dogs roaming on streets and parks?  If you know of a notorious offender with the mind set, 'I live in Rossmoor And I Can Do Anything I Want,' please report to us the approximate time and street so we can have OCAC investigate the matter.  We can be reached at REBTRAVIS@AOL.COM.  Let's Blog.  We really want to know how your thoughts on this issue.
