Grass Roots Dog Leash Campaign Prompts Official Response

WHO LET THE UNLEASHED DOGS OUT?!

We have received a large response to The Patch and REBTRAVIS@AOL.COM (RPMT) in our story of unleashed dogs in attacking pets and people.   O.C. Animal Care has agreed to join our campaign and has shown formal support:

Response to Rossmoor Predator Management Team:

Thank you for contacting us regarding the continued leash law violations at Rush & Rossmoor Parks. We just conducted a week-long daily patrol at Rush Park in mid-June and I believe a follow up patrol is certainly warranted in this situation. We will conduct both morning and evening patrols at the parks in an effort to curb off-leash offenders.
As part of your campaign to educate  residents, I would also like to provide both of the following phone numbers for residents to report to us when dogs are running off-leash.

After hours:  (5 pm –– 8 am) –– 714-935-7158.

The patrols are a great way to curb these issues, but some owners may choose to run their dogs off leash at times when our officers are not present. This is why we ask that residents contact us any time they see a dog off leash in the parks. Also, if you’’d like to include the verbiage specific to Orange County Codified Ordinance 4-1-45 Restraint of Dogs: Sec. 4-1-45. - Restraint of dogs. No person owning or having charge, care, custody, or control of any dog shall cause or permit, either willfully or through failure to exercise due care or control, any such dog to be upon any private property unless such dog be restrained thereon by a fence, wall, substantial chain, leash not exceeding six (6) feet in length, other appropriate physical restraint, or is under the charge of a person competent to exercise care, custody, and control over such dog. No person owning or having charge, care, custody, or control of any dog shall cause or permit, either willfully or through failure to exercise due care or control, any such dog to be upon any public property unless such dog be restrained by a substantial chain, or leash not exceeding six (6) feet in length, and is under the charge of a person competent to exercise care, custody, and control over such dog, unless the owner or operator of such public property grants written permission for such dog to be on such property without such chain or leash.

Do you agree that unleashed dog owners should be cited who violate the law and/or have you experienced Rossmoor's Parks being used as dog parks?
