Boomer on the Loose says:Back To School--NOT!

Mid-August now, and this is the time you start hearing all the back-to-school ads.  Although, actually, some schools are starting already this week.

But, do I care? NO!  Because I'm Retired!  After 37 years of teaching public school, I don't have to start feeling anxious in August.

When I was teaching, this was the time of year I started thinking about what I had to do to get ready for school.  When the nightmares started.

Always something like:  I'm in front of the class, trying to teach something.  But the kids won't be quiet.  Nobody will listen to me!  I feel frustrated and want to cry, but don't want the kids to see it get to me.

In August I'd start thinking about the list of stuff I'd planned to accomplish in the summer. Did I cross off at least a couple of items?   And try to think of a special outing or treat for myself, to have fun while I can.  Going for a hike, or beach day, or a show while I'm still alert enough to drive to LA.

It wasn't so much the kids or the class I dreaded  It was the waking up at 5:30, and dragging myself thru the day with a half hour for lunch. Then, after the kids would leave after 3, I'd have to stay another hour or two, just straightening up and preparing for tomorrow.

After a few years of retirement, it's so great to finally be caught up on my sleep.  Never tired now!

So, ring, school bells!  I'll be tucked in cozily, at least until 9 or 10 am.
