Huntington Beach-based Sunshine Makers, Inc., the company behind the Simple Green® line of environmentally safer cleaning products and its non-profit foundation EGBAR (Everything’s Gonna Be Alright) are excited to launch “Natives in the Classroom” this Earth Day. In collaboration with McGaugh Elementary School, the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge (SBNWR) and the non-profit organization Friends of SBNWR, four 4th grade classrooms at McGaugh Elementary school in Seal Beach will learn about the value of our precious wetlands and how we can help restore and preserve them.
Under the guidance of their enthusiastic teachers, the 4th graders are expected to raise approximately 350 plants this year, which will be planted at the refuge in 2015. The EGBAR foundation is providing needed supplies and Simple Green® staff will build shade covers for the germination trays, deliver supplies to the school, help introduce the project to the children and monitor progress throughout the year.
The company is hopeful that collaborative community projects like this one will help raise awareness and additional support for the modestly staffed Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge. The project slogan, “Beautiful Things Grow When We All Work Together” summarizes what community is all about.
