Truck Gears Inc. Hopes to Consolidate Business in Los Al

The city Planning Commission will decide whether to allow a motor vehicle services repair center on Humbolt Street.

A city business hopes to move its three locations into one central spot in Los Alamitos, and on Monday night the Planning Commission will decide if it can.

Officials are scheduled to vote on whether Truck Gears Inc. can build a motor vehicle services repair area at 10551 Humbolt St., the former site of Bau Furniture Manufacturing.

According to the staff report, TGI remanufactures heavy-duty class eight drivetrain components, including transmissions, differentials, drivelines, clutches and flywheels, and serve customers throughout the Southwestern United States.

The location is a 23,496-square-foot industrial building in a “planned light industrial” zone. According to a letter from the applicant’s representative, the business proposes to use the space to house all three of its current locations, which are spread throughout the city.

About 15 to 20 employees work in the business, which lists its current primary address as 10852 Kyle St.
