The Secret's Out on the Secret Menu

In-N-Out made the secret menu famous, but Starbucks elevated it to an art form. Here is a guide to some secret menus at restaurants in town.

In honor of the new In-N-Out Burger at the shops at Rossmoor, we at Patch decided to delve into the not-so secret world of secret menus.

And there are a lot of them. Here are a few for restaurants in the Seal Beach, Los Alamitos and Rossmoor area.

The most famous, of course, is In-N-Out. That cat is so out of the bag that the franchise went ahead and posted it’s secret menu on the company website. However, these items aren’t posted on the actual drive-thru menu, so you have to know what you want before you pull up.

In-N-Out Secret Menu

  • 3 X 3: When the Double Double just isn’t enough, you can order this burger, which comes with three beef patties.
  • 4 X 4: When the 3 X 3 just isn’t enough, you can step it up another notch with this burger, which comes with four beef patties (We’re skeptical that it is physically possible to bite into four-patty burger. So if you or anyone you know can do it, please send in an action photo, and we’ll run it on Patch and recommend some good cardiologists).
  • Protein Style: A burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun.
  • Animal Style: A mustard-cooked beef patty with additional pickles, cheese, spread and grilled onions diced up and mixed together on the grill before getting dumped on your burger.
  • Grilled Cheese: Picture a cheeseburger without the beef.

Starbucks:

  • Short: A cup of joe that is cheaper and smaller than the tall.
  • Captain Crunch Frappuccino: If you want that Saturday morning cartoon feeling while slaving away in your cubicle, order this beverage, which tastes exactly like a bowl of Captain Crunch. It’s a Strawberries and Crème Frappuccino with hazelnut syrup added.
  • Cake Batter Frappuccino: A Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino with white mocha or hazelnut syrup added.
  • Chocolate Dalmatian: A White Chocolate Mocha with chocolate chips sprinkled on top.

Chipotle:

  • Whatever You Want Within Reason: The Chipotle policy is to accommodate special orders that can be made with ingredients from a burrito. That makes for some flavorful quesadillas and nachos. You can basically pile it on for minimal costs.
