Spin! Brings Artisan Pizza to Los Alamitos

"Breakout Brand" Spin! Neapolitan Pizza has opened its second Orange County location in Los Alamitos at 11122 Los Alamitos Blvd. Its first Southern California restaurant is located at the Stadium Promenade in Orange, near the Honda Center and the Angels Stadium of Anaheim.

Founded in 2005 in Kansas City, Mo., by restaurant industry veterans Gail and Richard Lozoff and Edwin Brownell, Spin!, which has six locations in Kansas and Missouri, is making its move into California under its first franchisee, Hofman Hospitality Group (HHG).

The chain is known for offering an "exceptional menu made from fresh ingredients without the gourmet price and affordable premium wines in a distinct and welcoming environment," according to a press release. That menu, with recipes developed by James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Smith, features an artisanal mix of authentic Neapolitan-style pizza, salads, signature Panini and Italian deli sandwiches, and gelato.

Spin!'s pizza options represent a diverse selection of hand-spun, stone-fired, traditional thin-and-bubbly crust, rustic whole-wheat crust, and gluten-free pizzas, with dough made fresh every day using several types of flour including one imported directly from Italy. The pizza chain also roasts all toppings and ingredients in its stone hearth ovens each day, including mushrooms, caramelized onions, artichokes, and even capers, pecans, pineapples, pine nuts, and pancetta. 

At Spin!, customers can order traditional Pizza Rossa (red pizzas with crushed Roma tomato sauce) and Pizza Bianca (white pizzas with roasted olive oil glaze).

One of the eatery's more popular pizzas, the Margherita, was named one of the best dishes of 2012 by Restaurant Business magazine. The restaurant also has been awarded best pizza honors by numerous publications in its hometown of Kansas City, where it is ranked number one pizza restaurant by Zagat.

Spin! also serves a variety of affordable premium wines priced well below traditional restaurant prices, according to a press release, and makes homemade white, red and blood orange sangrias. Spin! also offers a selection of craft beers.

To its credit, Spin! was honored as a “Rest of the 101 Best Restaurants” in the nation by top foodie website TheDailyMeal.com and as a “Breakout Brand” in 2013 by Nation’s Restaurant News.

HHG, headquartered in Signal Hill, plans to open a total of 37 Spin! restaurants in Southern California during the next 10 years, including one at Bella Terra outdoor shopping mall in Huntington Beach this spring. HHG also owns 18 Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que locations in California, Arizona and Nevada, and four Hof’s Hut restaurants in Southern California.
