Seal Beach Flower Shop Reopens Following Car Crash

Seal Beach flower shop Petals and Pop has reopened its doors on Main Street following an accident that sent a car through the front of the business earlier this month.

Petals and Pop owner Theresa Anderson said she has literally been picking up the pieces of her shop following the Oct. 2 accident that saw a Toyota Prius accidentally reverse backwards into the front window of her shop only three days after her grand opening party.

"That was crazy-crazy, but its over-over," Anderson said on Wednesday. "We are just kind of moving forward now."

Anderson said that among other damage, the crash completely shattered an early 1800's cart that she first sold flowers out of when she originally started her business in Los Alamitos.

"It was literally in pieces on the ground," Anderson recalled.

Since the crash, Anderson has pieced the cart back together in what she calls "Frankenstein" fashion. The cart now sits prominently displayed again in the store's open front window filled with the latest fall flowers and color palettes.

Not without help from the community, Anderson also said the carpenter who built her cabinets and front counter quickly got back to work rebuilding the store following the crash.

Members from the community also showed their support where they could.

"Everyone wrote notes outside saying how much they missed us," Anderson said. "It was very motivating to want to come back and rebuild."

Now that the crash and rebuild are behind her, Anderson said she is now looking forward to the holidays, especially Halloween and Thanksgiving. The shop has flower classes planned as well as multiple weddings for clients.

"We have a lot to be thankful for," she said. "We are thankful nobody got injured... The worst didn't happen."
