Rossmoor No. 1 Place in State For Suburbanites, says Real Estate Giant

Out of 11,000 cities studied, the community was also ranked the ninth best city/town for suburbanites in the nation, according to Coldwell Banker.

It’s nice to be No. 1 in the state.

And No. 9 in the nation isn’t too shabby either.

The close-knit community of Rossmoor ranked highly in a recent study of 11,000 suburban communities across America, according to Coldwell Banker Real Estate.

The real estate company ranked cities and towns based on a number of factors including traffic conditions, local school quality and nearness to amenities such gas stations, ATMs and grocery stores.

Here are the top five places in California, according to the study:

1. Rossmoor
2. Coto de Caza
3. Villa Park
4. Hillsborough
5. Lucas Valley-Marinwood

The study also found that of the about 10,000 residents, 86.4 percent are homeowners, local schools garnered a 10 on a scale of one to 10, and there are 1,320 different amenities like ATMS, grocery stores and gas stations within a five -mile radius.

Beverly Houghton, a Rossmoor resident since 1985, said she found ranking “a great compliment.

“We are little bit unique because we’re an unincorporated area but we’re very desirable to live (in),” Houghton said.

Houghton, a second-vice president with the Rossmoor Homeowners Association, said that people move to the city for the location, the highly-involved community and the high performing school district, Los Alamitos Unified.

What does she love about Rossmoor?

“It’s very quiet in here,” She said. “When you drive in, you get away from the hustle and bustle.”

Alfred Coletta, president of the Rossmoor Community Services District said that the community is "a beautiful, green and serene place to call home."

"Unlike the make-believe Main Street in Disneyland, Rossmoor is real," Coletta said in a written statement. "This suburban oasis thrives because of its caring and involved residents and community leaders.

"Personally, I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else," Coletta added.

In the nation, Cherry Hills Village, Colorado about 10 miles south of downtown Denver, was ranked the No. 1 Best Place for Suburbanites, receiving the highest score in the nation with a nearly 100% home ownership rate and less than 20 minute average commute. 

Rossmoor ranked No. 9 in the nation.
