Playdate: Is Toy Retailer Headed to Shops at Rossmoor?

Toys R Us may be playing with the idea of opening in Seal Beach-Rossmoor.

They look like the life-sized versions of Tonka trucks and bulldozers you might see at Toys R Us. But they are real, and they’re tearing up the ground in the vacant lot next to Kohl’s at the Shops at Rossmoor.

What is the latest big-name retailer to come to the Shops at Rossmoor? Officials at the Shops won’t say. It’s not that they are TOYing with US, it’s just that the legal minds behind the deal haven’t signed off on the announcement. The official announcement could come as soon as next week, said the Shops’ General Manager Jim Lynch.

Before anything can be built, the existing parking lot needs to be torn up, which explains the construction work residents may have noticed of late, Lynch said.

So, while the Shops at Rossmoor will neither confirm nor deny the rumors, we here at Patch will just have to drop subtle hints: Toys R Us, Toys R Us, Toys R Us.

Meanwhile, construction on the new Rite Aid at the corner of St. Cloud Drive and Seal Beach Boulevard has hit a speed bump as crews contend with possible contamination from the old gas station that was torn down this year. While the project is behind schedule, construction is slated to begin within the next month, Lynch said.

But before the alleged Toys R Us or Rite Aid come to town, the long awaited In ‘N Out Burger is slated for a grand opening next March.
