Los Alamitos Sir Speedy named Business of the Year

State Senator Tom Harman named Los Alamitos' Sir Speedy Print Shop as the Small Business of the Year for the 35th Senate District.

This week State Senator Tom Harman named Los Alamitos’ Sir Speedy Print Shop as the Small Business of the Year for the 35th Senate District, which includes 16 communities including Los Alamitos, Rossmoor and Seal Beach.

Harman presented the award on the state senate floor to owners Allen and Lauri McLean, noting, “Allen and Lauri embody the character traits that make west Orange County so wonderful: engaged, charitable, and loving. It is my honor to recognize them for their hard work and generosity.”

The McLeans opened their Sir Speedy Print Shop in Los Alamitos in 1983.  After years of hard work they are now devoting their attention to charity.

“Now that our business is successful, we want to give our time and our finances because, when we were growing the business, we weren’t able to do so,” said Allen McLean.

According to Harman, the community has been very supportive of their business and now they are in a position to support their community.  They have given their time and energy to children’s causes, including the Precious Life Shelter for homeless, pregnant women and the Casa Youth Shelter, a safe haven for run-away youth.

Allen is a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Los Alamitos-Seal Beach Rotary Club, having served as President of the Club in 2008-09.

Allen and Lauri were named “Citizens of the Year” at the Cypress College Foundation’s Americana Awards in 2008.

In 2006, the McLeans received an award from Sir Speedy, recognizing the Los Alamitos location as one of the top grossing in the country.  That same year, the McLeans opened a second store in Signal Hill which is now managed by their son, Shawn.

“It is an honor to represent the McLeans, and thousands of other hard working and generous constituents just like them, in the state Senate,” said Harman.
