Los Alamitos Race Course Backs Off Thoroughbred Expansion

The Los Alamitos Race Course has withdrawn plans to expand to accommodate thoroughbred racing, according to the Daily Racing Form.

Officials at the Los Alamitos Race Course have backed off plans to expand its racetrack next year in order to replace Hollywood Park as the region’s destination for Thoroughbred racing, reports Daily Racing Form.

According to Daily Racing Form reporter Steve Andersen, track officials disagreed with the California Thoroughbred Trainers over the expansion and declined to compete with Fairplex Park over racing dates. However track owner Ed Allred left open the possibility of getting back in the running if Fairplex Park doesn’t work out for thoroughbred racing.

“Ed has said all along that we won’t be part of a beauty contest,” Los Alamitos consultant Brad McKinzie told the Daily Racing Form. “They should judge Fairplex Park on its merits – stabling, the racetrack, and what it will cost. If at that time, they want to talk to Los Alamitos, I’m sure Los Alamitos will have an open mind. At this time, we won’t get involved with industry infighting.”
