Local Gas Prices Dropping But Not as Quickly as Elsewhere

The average cost of a gallon of gas has dropped for 20 days in a row, but it's still way higher than last year.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline Orange County fell Sunday for the 20th consecutive day, dropping seven-tenths of a cent to $3.816, 6.1 cents less than one week ago and 7.5 cents lower than one month ago but 86.3 cents higher than at this time last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The Orange County average price has dropped 12.5 cents over the past 20
days, including seven-tenths of a cent on Saturday.

“Gas prices in the western U.S. states have dropped, but more slowly than in other areas – Missouri and South Carolina now have averages below $3.20 a gallon, while Oregon and Washington averages are in the $3.80 range along with California,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “There are reports of some production issues locally, as well as the increased overseas selling of diesel, that have kept prices from falling more quickly in this area.”
